If you're looking for a great family fun day out, I can highly recommend the Burren Nature Sanctuary. Its located just outside the picturesque village of Kinvara, Co Galway, along the Wild Atlantic Way.
They make huge effort providing great, healthy food on site in their Sanctuary cafe. Their emphasis is on fresh, seasonal, local, and homemade food. Their healthy children's menu is packed full of 'hidden' vegetables in the pizza, pasta and soups. An example is their savoury scone (shown below) which includes spinach and cheese. I particularly like their ‘no fryer, no fizzy pop’ policy. While there's no chips on the menu, there's lots of other tasty alternatives that kids will enjoy, as well as sweet things.
Of course the big attraction for kids is the different play spaces, from the indoor play area (including soft play) to the outdoor adventure playground (including sand pit and zip line). There's also opportunities to hunt for the fairy houses in the native Hazel Woodland or meet and feed the farm pets, including donkeys, pigs and sheep.
They're open February to December 10am – 6pm daily.
Find them on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BurrenNatureSanctuary/ or their website is http://www.bns.ie/.
Fees include all day access or you can just stop by the cafe itself for breakfast, lunch, coffee or cake.
Please note that I did not receive any gain from the Burren Nature Sanctuary for writing this.
