Child's Healthy Eating Consultation (available in-person / online)

Food manufacturers can combine ingredients that do not occur in natural food in their most highly refined nutrient depleted forms

This means meeting with you, for up to 1 hour initially, in my home office in Galway City. This allows quick access to my well-stocked fridge, freezer and pantry so that you can see products first hand, taste samples etc. Of course, we can Skype as well, if that's suits better. 

I look at the whole food and drink intake for your child(ren) as a unique starting point. I work with you in a non-judgemental way, taking account of your child(ren)’s preferences etc. This occurs within the context of your whole family, to ensure proposed changes are sustainable and realistic. Based on your priorities we develop personalised recommendations together, involving gradual changes and working at your pace.

What's involved? 

The first consultation focuses on the food diary of the child(ren). A food diary involves all meals, snacks and drinks for 3 days. This is to ensure I get a better picture of your child(s) unique starting point. Then this helps me to determine patterns, preferences and dislikes, in terms of textures, tastes, colours etc

Follow-up (usually within 3-4 weeks)

We often find challenges arise when we start to do things differently. This is why follow-up appointments are so fundamental to keep you motivated and support you in the transition period.  At the follow-up consultation:

Many supposedly healthy replacement foods are hardly healthier than the foods they replaceWe will discuss:
  • Progress to date and anything relevant that came up since the last meeting 

  • The next steps for sustaining success in the long term 

  •  I can also go through a brief questionnaire with you to establish if we should also look at other aspects of health like immunity, digestion etc.

  • Follow-up is recommended until you feel your goals and priorities have been met.




Mini Consultations

These are similar to the Healthy Eating Consultations above but shorter in duration (30 mins). As time is more limited we focus on ONE specific part of the child's day (rather than the full day). This involves completing a child's food dairy for this ONE part of the day ie Breakfast, Lunch or Snacks.

One-off consultations

One-off consultations can result in worthwhile progress e.g. 

  • a step-by-step strategy to deal with the overfocus on treats
  • specific ways to neutralise dessert
  • recommending better food products and sweet alternatives.
